The first weeks of term are under way, and for children settling into school life and parents adjusting at home, a lot is happening at once. Uniforms still to be reordered, timetables and activities not quite in place, communication between school, child and parents still finding its rhythm. But week by week, things fall into step. From our experience with many families at exactly this stage, two things that make the early weeks easier:
Webinar: Rethinking homesickness
Dr Nannette Reuther is a coach for parents, families and young adults, a UK guardian, and a mother of six. She draws on more than ten years of first-hand experience with British boarding schools. On Wednesday 16 September 2026 at 6pm, she joins us for a webinar.
In this session she will offer a different way of looking at homesickness: not primarily as an alarm signal, but as a sign of what matters to a child. Dr Reuther explores how boarding changes the relationship between parents and children, and how families can support their children in managing the feeling of missing home, settling into a new environment and growing through the challenges.
Subject choices for Sixth Form
We encourage all Sixth Form students (Year 12) to choose an A-Level or IB subject combination that meets German recognition requirements. Many students enjoy boarding life so much that they decide to stay on, and having the right subjects in place from the start keeps that option open. Our checklist gives you the key requirements for both A-Levels and the IB Diploma. If subjects need to be changed after the start of the year, please get in touch with us early. For the IB in particular, any subject change should happen within the first six weeks to ensure smooth recognition.
